- The Triune God - One God in 3 Persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit
- The universal distinction between the Law and the Gospel:
- The Law is what man must do for God
- Man cannot keep the Law because he is sinful by nature and in thought,
word and deed.
Man cannot save himself by works of the Law. (Romans 3:23)
The Law condemns man because of sin.
- The Gospel is what God does for man.
- The Gospel is the Good News of the free gift of salvation earned for
man by the righteousness of Jesus Christ, and his payment for our sins by
his death on the Cross.
All non-Christian religions teach salvation by works, and most Christian
denominations confuse the use of the Law and Gospel.
- Salvation offered to all by:
- GRACE alone - John 3:16
- FAITH alone - Ephesians 2:8-9
- SCRIPTURE alone - John 8:31-32
- The threefold assurance of forgiveness offered to all believers through the
Word, and the Sacraments of Baptism and the Lord's Supper.
- BAPTISM is Gospel, not Law
- It is the free gift of the washing of sins through the power of the water
and the Word. (Acts 2:38-39)
- THE LORD'S SUPPER is Gospel, not Law
- Christ instituted the Lord's Supper for the assurance of the forgiveness
of sins. (Matthew 26:28).
The Lord's Supper is not a mere fulfillment of another command that somehow
works to our benefit.
The Lord's Supper is not a mere reenactment of the Supper Christ shared with
his disciples.
The Lord's Supper is the Gospel promise of Jesus in which he shares his own
body and blood given and shed at the Cross for our forgiveness, life and salvation.
